Chevrolet is working on the next generation of the Corvette ZR1, and the latest spyshots show the return of a massive rear wing.
As you can observe in the spyshots in this article’s gallery, General Motors engineers were actually testing two prototypes of the 2018 Corvette ZR1, with different rear wings.
Most likely, they were doing comparison tests with the two versions of the rear spoiler, which was not featured on earlier prototypes. The smaller unit was spotted this summer, and the larger spoiler was also seen before.
The ZR1 version of the C7 Corvette was not announced when this generation was released on the market, but it appears that GM will launch it as a swan song to the current ‘Vette. It will get a few years of production, and it will be the top-of-the-line version of the ongoing generation.
As usual with a ZR1 version of a Corvette, this prototype looks like it means business, and its specialty is begin driven fast on the track. This is still a street-legal vehicle, so you could always expect to see that big rear wing in front of you while you sit in line at a drive-through.
The 2018 Corvette ZR1 will also get a few interior touches, which are set to differentiate it from its siblings in the range. As you can observe, the test vehicle had a red interior, which includes the dash. Unfortunately, the photos were taken from above, and it is tricky to see more of this model’s cockpit.
The ZR1 prototype seen in these spyshots also features new aerodynamic elements at the front end, along with a set of side sills, and a mildly-modified rear end. The rear bumper has not been modified that much when compared to a regular model, as one of the images in the gallery helps reveal.
The prototypes had license plates that are reserved for manufacturers, so there is no doubt that these cars belonged to an automaker, and GM is the only obvious answer here. The four-tailpipe configuration has been kept for the ZR1 model.
