Seeing the 2018 BMW M4 CS lapping the Nurburgring in the piece of footage at the bottom of the page doesn't exactly come as a surprise and yet the uber-coupe is far from having reached its full track potential.
As you'll notice, the prototype still hasn't reached that phase requiring it to drop flying laps. You know, the kind of testing that exposes the best and the worst sides of a machine - here's a delicious example involving the 2018 Mercedes-AMG E63 chasing the 2018 Audi RS3 Sedan into terminal understeer.
Returning to the Bimmer we have here, the details of the supposedly spiced-up version we have here haven't been confirmed yet. In fact, as we explained yesterday, when we showed you spyshots of both the "standard" and the CS-spec M4, the latter nameplate is still tentative.
Then again, with BMW set to introduce the next generation of the 3 Series in 2017, which should lead to fresh M delicacies one or two years later, we expect the Bavarians to give the M4 GTS a "successor" for the 2018 mid-cycle revamp of the 4er.
However, while the M4 GTS is the kind of all-out track weapon, albeit with a numberplate, the CS could be slightly more civilized, thus allowing for a daily driver status without requiring too much sacrifice from the humans inside the car.
As for the firepower, the 500 hp S55 heart of the M4 GTS sets the upper limit. And since Bosch, the supplier behind the water injection system featured on the motor, has already confirmed the feature will make it into other cars, we could expect the M4 CS to pack such tech delicacies.
With its aggressive chin and its bold tail, this M4 test car can be seen leading a Nurburgring prototype "convoy" in the video, which makes us think of lap times. But that's another story for another time.
