With BMW's mid-size family being in the midst of a mid-cycle revamp (Bimmer fans call this an LCI, Life Cycle Impulse), the 4 Series Convertible was the only derivative we hadn't seen covered in camo yet.
Well, the open-top 4er in now making its spyshot debut, as you can see in the image gallery. With the exterior changes limited to front and rear fascia tweaks, these are the only covered areas of the car. Oh, and let's not forget the all-LED lighting coming with the LCI.
Peeking inside the Convertible, we see a covered dashboard. So far, we know the German automaker is set to improve perceived cabin quality, while the infotainment system graphics will also get a boost.
In the powertrain department, the coupe-convertible 4 Series won't bring any updates, as the 2017 4 Series line-up has already received an engine refresh via the new 430i, which replaces the popular 428i and the 440i, which fills in the 435i's position.
The renamed models add a bit of oomph thanks to small revisions, with the 430i squeezing 248 hp out of the 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine, while the turbocharged 3.0-liter straight-six of the 440i (the 40i used to be a V8 badge, remember?) brings 320 horses.
In the handling department, the current 4 Series Convertible is already a joy to drive, offering a very sure-footed attitude, as we noticed in our 428i review.
The BMW 4 Series Convertible is expected to debut next year, following the rest of the 4 Series derivatives German engineers are currently working on.
In fact, the final piece of the puzzle is the M4 Convertible (we only have aged spyshots) and we'll bring this to you as soon as we get our lens on it. We'll remind you that, while the M3 LCI changes are overly subtle, we can't say the same thing about the M4 Coupe - the recent spyshots showing the M4 wearing pre-revamp M4 GTS bits and pieces tell quite a story.
