Yamaha just announced it will update the TMAX 530 cc sports commuter scooter for 2017, with the new model scheduled to go on sale in Europe in March next year.
The 2017 TMAX is inspired by the “Master of Scooter” concept and is the first one in Yamaha’s range to feature the YCC-T (Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle) system, which enables delivering both smooth response and sporty power. The scooter also features TCS to allow for smooth accelerations on wet or unsealed roads.
Apart from the electronic nannies, the new TMAX is 9 kg lighter than the outgoing model. This happens thanks to a new aluminum frame, lightweight secondary belt drive and new pulleys.
A newly-designed aluminum rear arm is 40 mm longer now to optimize ground posture, and gets combined with a link-type Monocross suspension, with the lever ratio having been set so that damping forces can be received softly at low loading, and harder under high load.
The redesigned frame allows for a bigger storage space under the seat, enough to fit two jet-type helmets depending on their size. Visually, the muffler design has been revamped, the rear arm has a greater expression of length, and the engine case features an elaborate mechanical design.
Other new features include a two-piece analog instrument cluster with a TFT multi-information screen in between, new riding position, smart key, grips and seat heater as well as rear suspension initial loading/damping adjustment.
The coloring has been chosen to suit the character of each specification. These include "Matt Dark Purplish Blue Metallic 1," a new color to promote the presence and quality of the new TMAX used on the top-spec DX, as well as "Matt Silver 1," used in combination with Yamaha Blue wheels to emphasize the sportiness of the SX.
On the mechanical side, the TMAX is carrying over most of the parts. The engine is pretty much the same, a 540 cc parallel-twin generating 46 HP and 53 Nm but Euro 4 compliant. The 41mm inverted front fork and radial-mounted calipers are also carried over.
