Suzuki finally gave a refresh to its V-Strom 650 and V-Strom 1000 models revealing the manufacturer plans to regain a big slice of the medium and large-bore sport touring market.
Starting with the smaller one, the V-Strom 650 got updated after five years of production using the same ingredients. Suzuki now describes it as being “lighter, more powerful and has the image of the DR-BIG, the pioneer of the adventure segment, and aims to appeal to even more enthusiastic riders.”

The middleweight touring bike got a new cowling, which is narrower now to give the rider a wider view ahead and around the front of the machine. The redesign also puts the V-Strom 650 in line with the design on the bigger 1000 cc version.

The seat has been redesigned for more comfort while the engine has been tuned for a more flexible character to make for “stress-free riding from daily use to long distance adventure touring.” The 650 comes in standard and XT versions, the difference being made by the wheels - cast aluminum for the first and wire-spoke tubeless ones for the latter.

Moving to the V-Strom 1000, the model is available in two versions as well along with an upgraded front cowling seat and engine to allow for smoother and more relaxed touring. The model alos gets Suzuki's new "Traction Brake System". The 1000XT comes with the wired-wheels as well as tapered handlebars, while a three-piece luggage system can be had as an optional feature.

Both models made their debut at the INTERMOT bike show in Cologne, Germany, but the manufacturer hasn’t revealed price information on the two for the moment.

The V-Strom 1000 first appeared in 2002, having great success thanks to it’s powerful 90-degree V-twin engine and affordability. The V-Strom 650 came around in 2004, making the series even more popular among adventure riders. It’s last update happened in 2011.
