Introduced in 2014 for the 2015 model year, the VA series Subaru WRX has been updated for the 2017 model year. In terms of pricing, the updated WRX retails for $26,695 and the Subaru WRX STI is $35,195, excluding destination and delivery charges.
The pricing represents an increase of $100 and $500, respectively. The 2017 WRX makes good use of a 2.0-liter turbocharged boxer engine with direct injection and 268 horsepower on tap. The rally-bred model comes as standard with a six-speed manual transmission and Symmetrical AWD. A Sport Lineartronic transmission is available as an option.
The 2017 WRX STI has 0.5 liters more displacement and 305 horsepower to play with. The rally-bred drivetrain is complemented by a driver-controlled center differential, active torque vectoring, Brembo performance brakes, and Super Sports ABS technology. A six-speed manual is the only transmission you can have. If you fancy such a thing, the $39,995 WRX STI Limited can be had with a low-profile trunk spoiler in place of the signature wing.
For the 2017 model year, both the WRX and WRX STI have been updated with tricot headliners. All trim levels are equipped with power windows with auto up/down function on the driver and passenger windows. The base grade for the driver-focused WRX STI offers auto on/off headlights with an auto mode position with windshield wiper operation.
Then there’s the EyeSight Driver Assist suite of safety technologies. Integrated with lane departure warning, pre-collision braking, and adaptive cruise control, EyeSight is available for the WRX Limited with the Sport Lineartronic transmission.
The suite also includes reverse auto braking, lane change assist, rear cross traffic alert, and blind spot detection. Models equipped with EyeSight also boast steering-responsive fog lights, a feature that provides enhanced illumination in the direction of the turn.
Both the WRX and WRX STI in 2017 model year specification will arrive at Subaru dealers this summer. The all-new 2017 Subaru Impreza, on the other hand, is slated to come late in the 2016 calendar year.
