The Skoda Octavia Scout was never a beautiful car, but this updated 2017 model is probably the worst facelift of all time. Cosmetically, they've only really changed the headlights, but it's left the car looking like one of those strange fish with pointy teeth found at the bottom of the ocean.
For thousands of European customers, the Octavia Scout remains an ideal blend between a crossover and a wagon. So we'll have to stop the gag reflex and look at all the changes, particularly ones made in the powertrain department.

The press release says that this 2017 model will be available with three engines ranging in output from 150 to 184 PS. So that basically means you can't get it with the 1.6 TDI, like you can the SEAT Leon X-Perience.

Those three engines have the same output as they did before the facelift. The 1.8 TSI produces 180 PS and 280 Nm, being tied with the 184 PS/380NM 2.0 TDI for the title of fastest Scout (0 to 100 km/h in 7.8 seconds).

But the real novelty is that the 2.0 TDI with 150 PS can now be ordered with 4x4 and DSG, whereas before it was manual-only, a 7-speed no less. That makes you wonder why they left the 6-speed in the Octavia RS.

Besides the new headlights and grille, the Scout has also gained a new design for the alloy wheels. But the 30mm bump in side height and the underbody protection remains the same. There are no photos of the interior yet, but we know what that's all about. The system everybody is talking about is the new 9.2-inch Columbus infotainment system and what it can do.

Among the stand-out features, we'd mention Skodas Thermo Flux which, from time to time, increases the air and moisture permeability and provides considerably more riding comfort in different climatic conditions. Also fitted are the so-called electronic differential locks at both front and rear axles, which use the brakes to stop the wheel that's in the air from turning pointlessly.
