For the Megane IV, Renault upped the ante in the compact hatchback segment to heights that were previously unimaginable. The sharp design, Hybrid Assist diesel powertrain, and the 4Control four-wheel steering system are just three of the highlights.
But the Megane IV lineup won’t be limited to two body styles (hatchback and wagon). In the nearest future (as in later this year or early 2017), a sedan will join the kindred. Our talented team of spy photographers caught the 2017 Renault Megane Sedan in the European wilderness and, before anything else, the name hasn’t been confirmed at the time of writing.

Renault could go with Megane Sedan or, if the French manufacturer is not inspired, Fluence. As a brief refresher, the Fluence is second-banana unless you go for the Fluence GT2 Turbo and its 190 horsepower 2.0-liter force-fed engine. Thankfully, though, the 2017 Renault Megane Sedan or Fluence, whatever the name, won’t make the same mistakes as its predecessor.

As far as design is concerned, this thing looks as if the Renault Talisman has been scoodlypooping with a photocopier stuck at 75 percent. The sloping rear window and C-pillar are a bit different, sure, but everything else has Talisman written all over it. Slated to arrive at the 2016 Paris Motor Show in October or the 2017 Geneva Motor Show in March, the interior of the Megane Sedan will mirror that of its siblings.

Hence, the technological highlights of the cockpit will come in the form of a 7-inch instrument display that debuted with the Kadjar and the portrait-format touchscreen. The Renault Common Module Family platform that underpins the soon-to-debut Megane Sedan can house three- and four-cylinder turbocharged diesel- and gasoline-fed powerplants with outputs that range between 90 and 205 metric horsepower.

Watch this space for more info on and spy photos of the 2017 Renault Megane Sedan as we get them.
