The 2017 Range Rover Sport has received its smallest engine ever, a 2.0-liter diesel unit from Jaguar’s Ingenium range.
This is the first ever 2.0-liter diesel engine ever offered with the Range Rover Sport. The power plant is also found in the Land Rover Discovery Sport, Range Rover Evoque, and in some Jaguar models.
The power plant provides 240 HP and a peak torque of 500 Nm. Fuel economy in the standard EU mixed cycle (NEDC) is rated at 6.2 liters/100 kilometers. An automatic transmission comes standard with this engine variant, just like its siblings.
The all-aluminum engine provides a 0-60 mph time (96 km/h) of 8.0 seconds, according to manufacturer estimates, while fuel economy is rated at 45.6 mpg UK, while CO2 emissions are estimated at 164 grams per kilometer.
The new engine is not the only addition to the 2017 Range Rover Sport portfolio. The British premium SUV can be ordered with an Advanced Tow Assist feature, which helps the driver maneuver a trailer. It works through the Terrain Response 2 rotary dial, and it makes sure that all the necessary steering adjustments are made automatically.
Range Rover’s 2017 model year Sport also gets a Blind Spot Assist system, as well as an Intelligent Speed Limiter. The first system monitors blind spots and has the capability to override a driver steering action to avoid crashing a vehicle found on the side of the 2017 Range Rover Sport.
The second system, in the form of the Intelligent Speed Limiter, can see traffic signs, understand speed limits, and adjust the cruise control to respond to the posted limits. Think of it as an electronic nanny that helps you avoid getting a ticket while driving with the cruise control activated.
Land Rover updated the menu for the 4x4 system, and the dual-view touchscreen of the multimedia unit now has a 10-inch display. The British automaker even integrated a pinch-zoom function, just like on a tablet.
Customers also get a new exterior design package in the optional equipment range, as well as a wide variety of exterior colors, making the decision even more challenging. The 2017 Range Rover Sport comes on sale this winter, and it starts at GBP 59,700.
