This is not the first time we cross paths lenses with the 2017 Porsche Cayman and yet we haven’t seen the vehicle fully naked. So far, that is - as the spyshots we’re bringing you today reveal the model in the state you’ll be able to find it in Porsche showrooms starting next year.

Only a profane would expect massive styling changes for a Porsche mid-cycle update. But while the design tweaks are small, their combined effect is important. Ever since the Cayman was introduced one generation ago, the mid-engined coupe has shared the softer styling line with the Boxster.

Nevertheless, the new details seek inspiration in Porsche’s retro core, thus bringing the 2017 Cayman closer to the 911, which has always had an understated masculine image.

We’re referring to the new headlights, which come with a more angular shape, as well as the taillights, which offer revised inner graphics. The front apron also grabs our attention, with its intakes being a bit more aggressive than before.

Nevertheless, the big change targets the engine compartment hidden at the center of the Cayman. Matthias Muller, Porsche’s former CEO, who now leads the entire VW Group, has confirmed that the facelifted Cayman and Boxster will switch to turbocharged four-cylinder engines.

The rumor mill talks about a pair of turbo fours that share parts with the two twin-turbo flat-sixes found at the back of the revised 911. The base models should use a 2-liter mill delivering around 240 hp, while the S versions are expected to pack a 2.5-liter engine with about 300 hp. As for the GTS, this should deliver north of 370 hp.

As it happens with the 911, natural aspiration fans will still have something to turn to. Here’s to hoping Porsche won’t leave the atmospheric propulsion job to the range-topping Cayman GT4 alone.

Sticking to the unofficial report area, we’ll mention Porsche is expected to make a switch between the Boxster and the Cayman. So far, the coupe has been marketed as the more expensive car, but the open-roof model could play that role.

Expect the forced-fed Porsche Cayman to bow in mid-2016. Meanwhile, we’re inviting you to head over to this article, which we published back in the summer. The piece includes a video offering us the soundtrack of the force-fed Cayman.
