In production since late 2012, the fourth generation of the Nissan Pathfinder hasn’t aged too well. As a result of that, the 2017 model year adds some goodies to the Pathfinder to keep it fresh.
Slated to go on sale this fall, the biggest news about the 2017 Nissan Pathfinder is the engine. Compared to the naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V6 of yesteryear, the new unit boasts 56 percent new components, including a direct injection system. That being the case, the engine’s output increases to 284 horsepower from the previous 260 and torque is rated at 259 lb-ft (351 Nm), up from 240 lb-ft (325 Nm). Not bad at all if you ask me.
In combination with a better drag coefficient than the 2016 model year, the 2017 Nissan Pathfinder achieves the same EPA-rated fuel economy as its predecessor. Other than the continuity in frugality and increase in output, the Pathfinder also boasts a towing capacity of 6,000 pounds (2,721 kilograms).
On the upper trim levels of this mid-size crossover, the 2017 MY benefits from optional safety systems such as collision mitigation. Other goodies worthy of mention include a motion-activated tailgate, Around View Monitor with Moving Object Detection, Intelligent Cruise Control, and Forward Emergency Braking. On the driving front, Nissan North America tells that the engineers tinkered with the suspension and steering system.
In a bid to not be mistaken for a longroof or a high-riding minivan, designers applied some botox to the Pathfinder. Thanks to LED-accented headlights, two-tone wheels, and revised front and rear bumpers, the 2017 Nissan Pathfinder is a more attractive crossover than the one on sale today.
"The new Nissan Pathfinder takes the iconic nameplate to an even higher level of performance, technology and style," declared Jose Munoz, chairman of Nissan North America, Inc. "The Pathfinder is the perfect vehicle for connecting urban and off-road adventures,” added the official.
