Currently employing 12,500 people, the Mercedes-Benz plant in Bremen is the place where the German manufacturer builds ten nameplates. Those models are the C-Class sedan, wagon, coupe, and cabriolet, the E-Class coupe and cabriolet, the SLC, the SL, as well as the GLC and, more recently, the GLC Coupe.
At the present moment, the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe has yet to be priced in the U.S. of A. In Germany and the United Kingdom, on the other hand, suggested retail prices start from €49,444 and £40,580, respectively. The United States and Canada will have to wait until “early 2017” for it to come along.

Across Europe, the GLC Coupe is available in three guises at the present moment. The sole gasoline-fed powertrain is the 250 4Matic, which boasts 211 PS (155 kW) and 350 Nm (184 lb-ft) of torque. On the diesel front, customers can choose between the 220 d 4Matic and 250 d 4Matic. These powerplants produce 170 PS (125 kW) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) and 204 PS (150 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft), respectively.

Markus Schafer, member of the divisional board at Mercedes-Benz Cars for production and supply chain management, is chuffed to bits about the GLC Coupe: “With the start of production of the new sporty GLC Coupe, we are further expanding our SUV family as a key element in the Mercedes-Benz growth strategy."

"At the same time, we are strengthening the Bremen plant’s role as the main production site for the model series within our flexible and efficient production network. The team is doing a great job,” added Schafer.

This is but the first glance of the GLC Coupe’s potential as a luxury crossover. Later on in its production cycle, the model will be available as a plug-in hybrid (GLC 350 e 4Matic Coupe), as a go-faster machine (GLC 43 4Matic Coupe), and as a full-on brute (GLC 63 4Matic Coupe) with a hell-bent for leather twin-turbo V8 lurking under the hood. The latter, of course, is the one we’re looking forward to the most.
