2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe Shows Its Sexy Behind in Latest Spy Video

Mercedes-Benz's answer to the BMW X4 compact SAC (that's Sports Activity Coupe, in case you were wondering) is getting ready for an official debut, and it's looking quite tasty.

We all like to bash this coupe/SUV hybrid trend and call it nothing more than the automakers' plan to give us something we don't need and charge money for it, but whenever we're alone in the privacy of our homes, we can be heard whispering: "I quite like the BMW X6."

It's not something to be proud of, but these cars do exert a certain appeal, don't they? Let's be honest: no coupe has ever been accused of being particularly useful, but that didn't prevent us from considering them properly beautiful cars. Of course, in most cases, we end up buying the sedan or the station wagon, but we like the coupe nonetheless.

It's the same with SACs, with one very significant difference: the BMW X6 sold quite well. The BMW X4? Meh, not that much, but it's still young and busy creating a new segment, so let's not be too quick to judge. However, we'd expect the situation to be reversed inside the Mercedes-Benz range, and here's why.

The GLE Coupe model was released last year and sent out into the world to steal customers from the X6. The thing is that, even though it's a new model, the GLE Coupe is nothing more than an M-Class facelift with a different behind, so it's essentially a five-year-old model. Not a bad car, mind you, but its age is showing, particularly on the inside.

The GLC Coupe, on the other hand, is based on the GLC compact-sized SUV presented last year as well. Unlike the GLE that the GLE Coupe is base on, the GLC is a completely new car packed with all the tech Mercedes has to offer and adopts the beautiful interior design introduced by the C-Class. What's more, its exterior design also looks more sorted out, whereas the GLE Coupe doesn't feel at ease with this newly gained sportiveness.

The new GLC Coupe can be seen here with its rear covered in black foil that can only hide minor details such as the tail lights, but the overall shape can easily be read through. And it does appear as if headroom and storage space are going to be a problem, but as we've already discussed, these are not the kind of aspects that interest those who will buy these cars. Nope, they're just glad that there is now an SUV version of the type of largely impractical cars they would have normally acquired.
