2017 Mercedes-AMG GT-R Still Testing at Nurburgring, Lap Time Around the Corner

Ever wondered what Affalterbach engineers do to get their giggles? Sure, they can drive the cars they build, but what about those times when they're seeking smile diversity?

Well, the piece of Nurburgring footage at the bottom of the page comes to provide a potential answer to that question. The clip shows the 2017 Mercedes-AMG GT R still testing at the Ring, albeit with the footage having been captured on the roads outside the Nordschleife.

And the amusing bit has to do with the fact that, despite having been fully revealed, the supercar still wears its psychedelic wrap.

However, there's also another aspect we must discuss, one that's quite the opposite of funny. We're talking about the Nurburgring performance of the thing.

Mercedes-AMG still hasn't announced the lap time for the speed behemoth, but there are two key clues towards this. Since the company has let it slip the GT R will be quicker than the Porsche 911 GT3 RS PDK, it's enough to look at the Zuffenhausen machine's 7:20 lap to get a taste of things to come.

Then there's the whole "Beast of the Green Hell" punchline the carmaker has used to introduce the 577 hp two-seater, which makes things extra serious.

Cool, but when do we get to talk actual numbers?

Since the 2017 Mercedes-AMG GT R will probably adorn the automaker's Paris Motor Show, the French venue should see an interesting number being written on the spec sheet of the thing. And since we are now one day away from the moment when the Paris event opens its doors to the press, the anticipation is greater than ever.

Oh, and let's not forget that the nearly-here event is set to mark the public debut of the Mercedes-AMG GT/GT C Roadster, so we'll get quite a dose of AMG awesomeness this week.

P.S.: Someone in our office thinks the wheels on this prototype are carbon units, but the rest of us believe he's wrong.
