Lexus’s LC luxury coupe will get a hybrid version at this year’s Geneva Motor Show.
The resulting production model is called LC 500h and features Lexus’s new multi-stage hybrid system. The new hybrid propulsion unit has not been detailed by the Japanese brand, but we expect it to feature a 3.5-liter V6 engine and an assisting electric motor. In any case, the company promises “enhanced driving pleasure, more performance, and greater efficiency.”
The LC was fist revealed as a concept car in 2012, when it was called LF-LC Concept. This year, Lexus has presented the production model inspired by the LF-LC Concept car. The LC 500 was shown at this year’s Detroit Auto Show, and the hybrid version will be unveiled at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, coming up in March.
The LC is Lexus’s flagship coupe and will be an expensive model, with a starting price of just under $100,000. However, the car does feature a particular modular platform, made from carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP), high-strength steel, and aluminum. The mix of materials promises a higher torsional rigidity than that of the LFA, Lexus’s all-carbon supercar.
The platform used in the LC will underpin most future Lexus models, so the company will dampen the development costs through sales of other cars made on the new modular platform. The new technical platform could bring an array of new models from Lexus, all of them with impressive dynamic capabilities judging by the torsional rigidity provided by the new mix of materials employed by this platform.
From a design point of view, the new Lexus LC is a stunning automobile. The Japanese coupe has a grille that divides opinions regarding the look of the car, but the rest of its shapes and proportions are enough to be considered beautiful by modern standards. We expect Lexus’s new coupe to be popular among customers, given its look and features.
