366 miles or 589 kilometers. That’s how much the 2017 Honda Clarity Fuel Cell can be driven on a single tank of hydrogen. By comparison, the Tesla Model S in P100D form is rated 315 miles, whereas the Toyota Mirai is good for 312 miles.
Ladies and gentlemen, the 2017 Honda Clarity Fuel Cell holds the much-coveted title for longest range of any electric vehicle in production today. For those who aren’t too fond of hydrogen due to the insufficient infrastructure, the Clarity will soon be offered in Electric and Plug-In Hybrid flavor. Now, though, let us focus back on the Clarity Fuel Cell and the EPA’s ratings.

Other than the range per se, the EPA rated the 2017 Honda Clarity Fuel Cell with 68 MPGe. So to peak, this zero-emissions vehicle doesn’t claim the highest miles per gallon of gasoline-equivalent rating. Believe it or not, the holder of that title is the BMW i3 (124 MPGe). Slated to arrive in California at the end of the year, the Clarity Fuel Cell will lease for $500 or so per month, fill-ups included.

It’s also easy to refuel with hydrogens and perfectly adequate as a sedan. "Not only does the Clarity Fuel Cell fit five passengers and refuel in 3 to 5 minutes, it offers customers a driving range on par with gasoline-powered cars,” explained Steve Center, VP of the Environmental Business Development Office at American Honda.

What’s even more amazing about the Clarity Fuel Cell is that the fuel cell and the powertrain are roughly the same size as a V6 engine. Power-wise, the output for the Japan-spec model stands at 174 horsepower. Given the circumstances, it should be noted that the 2017 Honda Clarity Fuel Cell can keep its head up high considering how groundbreaking its predecessor was in the 2000s.

As a brief refresher, the year was 2002 when the Honda FCX became the first fuel cell vehicle in the world to be certified by the Environmental Protection Agency and the California Air Resources Board.
