If you want to tow some seriously heavy junk, chances are you’ll need a heavy-duty pickup truck. While the current selection of HDs is led by the 2016 Ram 2500 and 3500 in terms of what matters most - maximum towing capacity and mammoth torque from the Cummins Diesel engine, the 2017 Ford Super Duty lineup shapes up to be a game changing pickup truck.
Now at its third generation, the Ford Super Duty line started production in 2010 as a 2011 model year. The 2016 Ford F-Series Super Duty with the 6.7-liter Power Stroke turbo diesel can tow up to 31,200 lbs (14,152 kg) thanks to 860 lb-ft (1,166 Nm). By comparison, the 2016 Ram 3500 boasts 900 lb-ft (1,220 Nm) and a towing capacity of 31,210 lbs (14,156 kilograms).

The featured picture is the only photograph with the 2017 Ford Super Duty sans camouflage and it’s no wonder why the Blue Oval takes its sweet time to roll this baby out. Borrowing styling cues from the thirteenth-generation F-150 light-duty truck, the 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty at hand shows multiple chrome bars above and below the centrally placed badge, a smoother windshield rake, pull-type door handle, a flattop bumper, and a square-cornered air deflector. These aren’t the big news though.

Following in the footsteps of the 2015/2016 Ford F-150, the 2017 Ford Super Duty will make extensive use of aluminum alloys and high-tensile steels, coupled with some magnesium in some key places. These materials will see the truck become tougher and more capable, with the curb weight expected to drop by a few hundred pounds as well. If anything, engineers won’t need to improve the Power Stroke turbo diesel too much for the 2017 Ford Super Duty to one-up the towing capacity of the 2016 model year Ram 3500.

But there’s a catch to all this intelligent manufacturing solutions - the price will increase slightly, just like it did with the F-150. As if the previously mentioned updates weren’t enough to float your boat, prepare for “camera technology [that] helps drivers see around corners.” The technological craze hit the Ford Super Duty as well, which will offer available lane-keeping assist and a Pro Trailer Backup Assist feature.

Seven cameras will be installed on the 2017 Ford Super Duty truck, but they will not permit the driver to see around corners as some might tend to believe. You know the BMW Side View function? It employs two cameras built into the front wheel arches, which you can activate to take a peek left and right in a busy intersection. That’s all there is to it and what you should expect from the 2017 Ford Super Duty.
