If you think you’ve passed the age when LEGO should be included in your schedule, think again. We’ve got something that might just convince you to reconsider, and we haven’t even turned to the complex LEGO Technic contraptions in order to talk you into it.
Instead, we’ve got the plastic brick version of the 2017 Ford GT for you. This is still a proposal, so it needs to go though multiple steps in the company’s approval process until you get to see it in stores, but it has grabbed our attention.
We are talking about a 950-brick build, which can be considered a 1:17-scale effort. This took ten days to design and measures 270 mm in length, 110 mm in width and 80 mm in height. Sure, some of its details are not 100 percent accurate and we’re referring to the engine here.
But we’ll let the builder explain his creation - “my version of this amazing vehicle also features opening scissor doors, trunk and hood, with a detailed (and somehow invented) engine (come on, Ford hasn't shown any images with the opened hood, so I guessed) and dark blue/black interior, as detailed and smooth as it gets.”
So if you want to support this guy’s build, you can head over to the LEGO Ideas website.
Why are we so excited about some plastic bricks? Well, first of all, we’ve been playing with LEGO for as long as we can remember. And while nowadays we get our kicks from Technic builds with actual gearboxes and pneumatic features, when we found this 2017 Ford GT-related project, we had to show it to you.
After all, getting your hands on the actual car is extremely difficult. Earlier today we told you about the Blue Oval’s selection process, which aims to filter out speculators. So, in order to grab one of the 250 examples that will be released each year, you’ll need the $350,000 (expected), as well as a solid file.
