2017 Ford Fiesta ST Five-Door Introduced In Europe

After it launched the Fiesta ST200 earlier this year, Ford presents the Fiesta ST five-door hatchback. To be brutally honest, it took Ford a helluva lot of time to do so. More specifically, about four years since the three-door variant started production.

The only plus point of having five doors instead of just three is easier access to the rear seats. That’s perfectly OK for parents with toddlers, but then again, what sort of father would buy a Fiesta ST 5DR instead of something more sedate like a minivan? Also, what’s wrong with a BMW 3 Series Touring?

Despite the added practicality, the five-door Fiesta ST is just as quick as its three-door counterpart. The 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) time of 6.9 seconds mirrors that of the three-door model. The ST200, by comparison, sprints to 62 mph in 6.7 seconds. With 182 PS (180 horsepower) and 240 Nm (177 lb-ft) of torque from the 1.6-liter EcoBoost mill, there’s no difference in output either.

In true ST spirit, go-faster goodies abound. Other than the sporty suspension and steering system, Torque Vectoring Control is also on the menu, applying brake force to the inside front wheel when entering a corner. The Electronic Stability Control system also helps with the cause of an even sportier drive.

Ford has now sold more than 38,000 Fiesta STs in Europe since we introduced the acclaimed hot hatchback in 2013, and growing numbers of customers have been asking us for a five-door version,” declared Roelant de Waard, vice president of marketing, sales & service at Ford of Europe. “The Fiesta ST with five doors makes an affordable Ford Performance driving experience accessible to an even greater number of customers.”

In the UK, on-the-road pricing for the 2017 Ford Fiesta ST five-door starts from £19,495 for the ST-2 trim level. For reference, a three-door Fiesta ST in ST-2 form retails from £18,895, while the range-topping ST200 goes for £22,895. Customers can choose between five exterior colors for the five-door Fiesta ST. These are Race Red, which is standard, Frozen White (£250), Spirit Blue (£495), Shadow Black (£495) and Molten Orange (£745).
