The 2017 Ford F-Series Super Duty isn’t ready to hit showrooms yet, but the Blue Oval is working on that as we speak. Before it gets the green light for production, the fourth generation of the F-Series Super Duty was tested in true Built Tough style at the automaker’s proving grounds in the Great Midwest.
After virtual torture testing with the aid of supercomputers, the time has come for Ford to put the 2017 F-Series Super Duty through its paces by torturing it for real. Dubbed “the toughest, smartest, most capable Super Duty ever,” the all-new generation of heavy-duty F-Series workhorses is as tough as nails.

Whether it’s equipped with an ATV platform, salt spreader, ladder rack or a hydraulic lift, the 2017 Ford F-Series Super Duty doesn’t break a sweat because heavy-duty jobs are its profession. For this performance, we have to thank the fully-boxed frame.

According to Ford, the frame is composed of 95 percent high-strength steel and it is a whopping 24 times stiffer than the previous frame. That's a big claim, but we can't argue with the Built Tough promise.

To boot, the body shell is made of high-strength aluminum alloy, which is more resistant to dents and dings than a steel cargo box. That translates to peace of mind for Super Duty customers who depend on their pickup trucks to work hard each and every day. Even after overloading equipment, the cargo box of the new-gen Super Duty stood up to the torture. That's what a heavy-duty workhorse is all about.

“We drove prototype vehicles over the durability roads of the Ford Proving Grounds fitted with common aftermarket accessories to test the fitment and capability of our toughest pickup box ever,” we’re told by Kirk Leonard, vehicle integration engineer for FoMoCo. The video below is a testament to how Built Tough the 2017 Ford F-Series Super Duty really is. Expect the all-new Super Duty to go on sale late next year.
