2017 Ford F-Series Super Duty Blasts Rivals With Best-In-Class Everything

For the 2017 model year, Ford prepared an all-new F-Series Super Duty for all the hardworking men, women, and professionals out there. And good golly, the newest F-Series Super Duty of them all exceeds all the expectations we had about it.

First of all, let me set forth the numbers that make the 2017 Ford F-Series Super Duty the best in its class: 32,500 lbs (14,741 kg) maximum gooseneck towing, 21,000 lbs (9,525 kg) conventional towing, 27,500 lbs (12,473 kg) fifth-wheel towing, 7,630 lbs (3,460 kg) payload, 440 horsepower from the 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 turbo diesel, 925 lb-ft (1,254 Nm) from the same oil-chugging powerplant, and 430 lb-ft (583 Nm) from the 6.2-liter N/A V8.

It’s crystal clear, then, that the 2017 Ford F-Series Super Duty in F-450 SuperCrew 4x4 configuration is the new yardstick in the heavy-duty segment. “This is the best heavy-duty truck we’ve ever made. We listened to our customers and created the toughest, smartest and most capable Super Duty ever,” declared Doug Scott, Ford Motor Company truck marketing manager.

To put into perspective just how badass the new kid on the block is, I am much obliged to tell you that the maximum gross combined weight rating for truck and trailer is a class-leading 41,800 pounds (18,960 kilograms). That, dear reader, is more than half the maximum weight of a thumping great 18-wheeler semi-tractor trailer. Other than its sheer capability, the F-Series Super Duty also happens to be the most tech-crazy pickup in its segment.

Slated to go on sale this fall, the 2017 Ford F-Series Super Duty can be had in many shapes and sizes. Sans destination, pricing starts from $32,535 for the F-250 XL Regular Cab 4X2 with the 6.2-liter N/A V8 and tops at $77,125 if you’re in the market for the F-450 Platinum Crew Cab 4x4 with the 6.7-liter V8 turbo diesel, 8-foot (2.43 m) bed, and the 176-inch (447 cm) wheelbase.

Ram Trucks, Chevrolet, and GMC have a lot of catching up to do.
