2017 Chrysler Town & Country Will Have Foot-Activated Sliding Doors Amongst Others

It’s no surprise that Chrysler is currently working on its new Town & Country model. As a matter of fact, we’ve seen prototypes of the car out testing for quite some time now but what could they possibly bring to the table to make the minivan more attractive?

Well, if the previously revealed 700C Concept is any indication, we might be in for a ride. A beautiful, comfortable ride that is, that moves away from the typical design we’ve been getting used to in this segment.

According to new info leaked online earlier today, the new car will have innovative features onboard to sway potential customers its way once it comes out. Probably the most impressive one will be the foot-operated rear doors that may come in extremely handy considering the demographic this car appeals to.

Other interesting add-ons will include USB ports for all of the three rows of seats and new engines that should offer better mpg numbers. That will be achieved by reworking the 3.6-liter V6 Pentastar unit and not by replacing it altogether. A new 9-speed transmission should help too. Considering what the current model is offering (17/25 mpg) it shouldn’t be all that hard to make some improvements in this area.

If you really want to make a difference, though, a plug-in hybrid model is also rumored to be released towards the end of 2016 and this particular version is expected to be returning some rather impressive figures (some say around 75 mpge).

Getting back to the foot-activated sliding doors, we should mention that this won’t be any revolutionary feature or anything like that but more of a catch up if you will. Basically, you’ll be able to open the tailgate or the rear doors by waving your foot under the car. It’s something other manufacturers have been offering for quite some time now, but Chrysler didn’t on its popular minivan (where, might I add, it should really come in handy).

The production of the new model is scheduled to kick off in February at FCA’s Windsor Assembly Plant in Canada so expect an unveiling to take place at the Detroit Auto Show by then.
