In 2015, the Chevrolet Cruze was born for the second time. A year later, the five-door hatchback was presented at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show. Six months after its public debut, the 2017 Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback now has a price: $22,190.
That’s right! Including the $875 destination charge, but not tax, title, and so forth, the 2017 Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback is a mind-boggling $4,695 more expensive. Indeed, the four-door sedan starts at $17,495, while the five-door hatchback is $22,190. That’s 26.84 percent more! However, it's worth it.
The 2017 Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback starts from the LT Manual trim level, which costs $20,695 including destination, upwards (LT Automatic, Premier Automatic). As such, the two body styles with the equivalating trim levels are separated by $1,495. You want one? Like it or not, you'll have to wait for fall to arrive.
With the rear seats folded flat into the floor, the hatchback offers increased cargo space of up to 42 cubic feet (1,189 liters), which is a huge deal if you are an IKEA regular. Just like the sedan, the hatchback body style comes with standard and available goodies that include wireless charging for your mobile phone, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 4G LTE with Wi-Fi hotspot, and Teen Driver for worrywart parents.
In terms of wheelbase, the 106.3-inch (2,700 millimeters) stretch mirrors that of the four-door sedan. The roof and rear-end structure are the biggest contrasts between the two siblings. As standard, the 2017 Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback comes with a 1.4-liter turbo four-cylinder engine with direct injection and 153 horsepower on tap. In the sedan, the mill is good for 42 mpg on the highway (5.6 liters/100 km).
Pricing for the range-topping Premier Automatic isn’t available at the time of writing, but I can tell you that this trim level comes with a Z-link suspension system at the rear. This suspension better follows the lead of the front suspension, thus delivering a more rewarding driving experience. If my estimates are correct, the Cruze Hatchback Premier Automatic should retail for $3,300 more than the base LT Manual.
