Bentley has just launched its first 200-plus MPH four-door missile, which comes in the form of the S flavor for the Flying Spur W12.
There are two ways of regarding the Flying Spur W12 S and we'll start with the most obvious one, which has to do with bragging rights - after all, gentlemen can't measure their capabilities on every encounter, so top numbers are important.

To be more precise, the elegant speedometer needle of the limousine will climb all the way to 202 mph (325 km/h), while the 0 to 60 mph task is handled in 4.2 seconds (0-100 km/h in 4.5 seconds).

Thanks to nothing but new calibration and tuning, the 6.0-liter twin-turbo W12 under the sculpted hood of the machine jumps from 616 hp (625 PS) and lb-ft (800 Nm) to 626 hp (635 PS) and 605 lb-ft (820 Nm), with all of the torque being on tap from 2,000 rpm. The 40:60 (front:rear) AWD torque split Crewer engineers have introduced as a response to the overly conservative behavior of the 50:50 split used a decade ago remains unchanged.

Matching stopping power is available through the optional ceramic brake rotors, but keep in mind that the standard steel units provide hefty deceleration while skipping the undesired sound (read: slight squeal at times) risks of the carbon units.

Yes, the differences are small for all of the numbers mentioned above, but the Flying Spur line-up required such a model. You see, as we found our during the time we spent with the 2014 Bentley Flying Spur W12, when you put your foot down, there's a slight hesitation before the W12 decides to allow you to fully dig into its resources and we expect the new calibration to have taken care of this.

The new calibration also targets the active suspension, with the Brits promising to deliver the same magic carpet ride while the slightly more aggressive damping rates improve handling. And it's just as important that the electronic nannies keeping the behemoth on track at speed are now a tad more permissive, allowing the one behind the wheel to explore the limits of grip further.

This Is a Bentley, so enough with the figures, let's talk craftsmanship

The Flying Spur W12 S isn't afraid to display its sharper inner demons, offering multiple dark body details, from the Beluga radiator grille and light surrounds to the rear diffuser. However, the sporty front apron, the Beluga radiator grille, door mirrors and rear diffuser have been borrowed from the Flying Spur V8 S.

Stepping inside, we find an optional carbon fiber veneer and unique leather stitching, while the standard features include a black engine-spin trim, among others.

With deliveries for the 2017 Bentley Flying Spur W12 S scheduled to kick off before the end of the year, we'll get to meet the luxurious sedan at the upcoming Paris Motor Show.

In our book, the success Porsche has had with the 911 R, which started out as an afterthought built by digging into the Neunelfer parts bin and ended up becoming a living legend, is now pushing the entire VW Group, top tier brands in particular, to enrich their versions-editions bouquet and the Flying Spur W12 S is a perfect example of that.
