Just about a month ago, Aston Martin presented the Vanquish Zagato Concept at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este. Unsurprisingly, the British manufacturer has decided that it would be a shame not to milk the cash cow with a limited-run production model.
As I’ve ended my original material on the Vanquish Zagato Concept, “it would be a great farewell party for the current generation of the Vanquish if the British outfit were to offer a limited edition with the Zagato touch.” The inevitable happened and, “thanks to unprecedented customer interest, a strictly limited production run of 99 cars will be built to order at Aston Martin's production facility in Gaydon, England.”
The fifth model manufactured by Aston Martin in collaboration with Italian design house and coachbuilder Zagato won’t be cheap, though. In fact, it doesn’t even have a price tag because each and every unit will be tailored to each and every customer. Considering that the regular Aston Martin Vanquish starts at $287,650, I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that the extremely pretty Zagato model costs nigh on $350,000.
Under the long hood, the 2017 Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato hides a familiar 5.9-liter naturally aspirated V12, a design that went into production about 13 years ago. In the Zagato, the lump produces 600 PS or 592 horsepower. By comparison, the all-new 5.2-liter twin-turbo V12 in the DB11 churns out 608 PS or 600 horsepower. Most likely, this is the ultimate tune for the tried-and-tested naturally aspirated V12.
With a 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) of 3.5 seconds, the Vanquish Zagato can talk the talk and walk the walk, that’s for sure. Mind you, this work of art on wheels isn’t an out-and-out brawler. According to Aston Martin, the suspension is tuned for “a unique GT experience.” To my ears, that translates to long-distance comfort rather than carving corners like a man on a mission from the God of high-octane jungle juice.
More information on the Vanquish Zagato is available in the release underneath the following video.
