Despite the 2017 Acura NSX and 2017 Ford GT not being 100 percent direct competitors, many people treat them as such. Well, here's a well-known name in the US auto industry that doesn't see the pair of supercars this way: Hennessey Performance.
Given its Texan roots, the developer should, in theory, favor the Blue Oval's halo offers, but business is business, so the aftermarket developer has announced upgrade programs for both supercars.
While we've already discussed their Ford GT promise, we're here to zoom in on the company's Acura NSX work. As in the case of the 2017 GT, the Lone Star State developer hasn't offered us any actual details, but its website has quietly introduced the NSX on the list of vehicles targeted by the company.
To the best of our knowledge, the only major car company that has upgraded an electric powertrain so far is Tesla , so don't expect Hennessey to up the ante on the electron front.
Nevertheless, the twin-turbo V6 at the center of the new NSX will get more than a few touches, or at least that's what the tuner promises.
"Hennessey Performance will be offering a wide range of 2017 Acura NSX twin turbo engine performance upgrades including upgraded twin turbo system, stainless steel exhaust upgrade, intercooler upgrades, light weight wheel upgrades and more," a statement on the Hennessey website reads.
The gas-electric way in which Acura's halo car works means Hennessey will probably have a more difficult task modding it than in the case of the Ford GT.
Then again, with the aftermarket specialist currently being in the midst of an expansion process, tackling hybrids could be a logical step. As much as we hate to admit it, we won't be able to hold on to our V8s forever, so we need to prepare ourselves for a future where the suck-squeeze-bang-blow we adore will be an alternate form of propulsion.
