2017 Acura NSX Takes on the Nissan GT-R in Epic Japanese Supercar Comparison

I don't know what it is about Japanese supercars, but they lend themselves to comparison tests so much better than Italian ones. That's probably why this Head 2 Head between the all-new Acura NSX and the 9th model year of the Nissan GT-R is something I will re-watch over and over again.

First of all, the dynamic duo from Motor Trend is at it again. They got a Godzilla blow-up costume and said it belongs in a Jurassic World porn parody. Is there such a thing? I've got to put that on my To Search list, next to the clown stuff.

Picking on the NSX is so easy that everybody is doing it. However, MT tried its best to show what is going on, highlighting that the instant torque vectoring provided by the electric motors at the front is a real game changer.

While the NSX and GT-R are matched in terms of straight line performance, they are completely different regarding price. Nissan's overly complicated AWD system is something you'd expect to find in a range rover. Sending power to the back and back to the front again using two prop shafts.

However, the picture is less rosy once the price gets factored into the equation. The old NSX was about the same price as a Corvette ZR1 but offered performance similar to a Ferrari 348 with better reliability. However, this one is not that far off from what the Italians are charging and a dead match for the Audi R8. Wouldn't you rather have a 600 horsepower V10?

Even nine years after its launch, the Nissan GT-R is still a fantastic car if it can keep up with an Acura supercar almost twice its price. The Nismo model might have done a little better, but this regular 2017 unit has that ride comfort and updated interior Nissan keep talking about.

We've seen the NSX murder a Lamborghini Aventador in a drag race. But that just shows how evenly matched modern supercars are. Nothing blows people away as being special... except Tesla.
