As you may remember from our coverage of the 2016 Toyota Hilux, the eight generation of the truck is slated to debut in Thailand tomorrow, May 21. Things aren’t going to plan though - a batch of six Hilux workhorses have been damaged today, car-carrying trailer truck included.
According to regional news outlet MatichonOnline, the crash happened in the Lampang Province. Thanks to the wonders of Google Translate, we’re able to report that a white Isuzu trailer (reg. number 79-4216 Bangkok) rolled in a bend because of its heavy load.
No less than six units of the 2016 Toyota Hilux were transported by the truck, all of them suffering a fair share of damage. One of the Hilux workhorses got launched into the ditch, suffering big “bruises.” There’s no way around it: the most battered Hilux in the adjacent gallery is a write-off, anyway you look at it.
Lady Luck smiled upon the driver of the Isuzu truck, who got away with some scratches and, most certainly, soiled underpants. The highway patrol informs that elements such as the heavy load, the speed carried downhill by the truck and the corner at the end of the downhill section are to blame for this dreadful crash.
Considering that this is Toyota we’re talking about, and the 2016 Hilux is produced in Thailand, we’re keeping our fingers crossed an all-new batch of pickup trucks are on their way to the unveiling event in Bangkok. A little under 24 hours from the time of writing, the 2016 Toyota Hilux will also debut in Sydney.
