Programmed to showcase all the latest vehicles from both the US and import manufacturers, the 2015 Chicago Auto Show may be the surprise place of unveiling of a nameplate that’s eluded us up to this point - the 2016 Shelby GT350 Mustang Convertible. H/T to autoevolution reader racy topless fan for the information provided about the drop top muscle car.
Slated for February 14 to 22 at the McCormick Place convention centre on 2301 S Martin Luther King Dr, Chicago, #CAS2015 has a webpage dedicated to “Vehicles on Display - Convertibles.” As expected, there’s a lot of brough-ha-ha written there, including the proverbial “open top wind-in-your-hair feeling” everybody uses to describe how convertibles are better than fixed tops automobiles.

But here’s the deal autoevolution reader racy topless fan pointed out to us - whereas the description for the “Convertibles at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show” webpage doesn’t mention anything about the 2016 Shelby GT350 Mustang Convertible, the page’s bottom if full of tags made of automobile nameplates, including “Ford GT350 Mustang.” There’s something fishy about this detail.

After we’ve searched the “Vehicles on Display” and other pages relevant for the 2015 Chicago Auto Show, we couldn’t find other tags or mentions regarding the topless Shelby GT350 Mustang, which made us have our reservations. By all means, don’t take this bit of intel without a grain of salt because there are a lot of mysteries surrounding the subject on hand. Still, here’s the deal:

The “Convertibles at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show” boasts with these tags: Aston Martin DB9, Aston Martin Vanquish Volante, Aston Martin Vantage, Audi TT/TTS, BMW 2 Series Convertible, BMW M4 Convertible, BMW Z4, Buick Cascada, Chevrolet Camaro, Chevrolet Camaro Commemorative Edition, Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Convertible, Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, Chevrolet Corvette Z06, Dodge Viper, Ford GT350 Mustang, Ford Mustang, Mazda Global MX-5 Cup, Mazda MX-5, Porsche 918 Spyder, Porsche Boxster.

According to a previous report, a Dodge Viper convertible is in the pipeline for mid-2015, that’s if what Prefix Performance Vehicles doesn’t float your boat. All other nameplates featured in the tags list above are drop tops, except for the Shelby GT350. It may be a long shot, especially after Ford Performance boss Dave Pericak told us a convertible won’t be offered, but we have a gut feeling that FoMoCo is playing cat and mouse with us. Otherwise we wouldn’t explain why the Blue Oval offers a replacement quarter panel interior insulator for a "Convertible; MOD 5.2L-TiVCT PFI NA HP1 GAS, Less Special Equipment Package; RH." You know, only the GT350 features a 5.2-liter V8 powerhouse, so...
