2016 S-Class Pullman to be Made by Brabus

After more than plenty of automotive journalists around the world continuously mistaken the upcoming Mercedes-Benz S-Class Maybach (X222) with the future S-Class Pullman, it is now time to gorge on the latest news about the longest and arguably most stately variant of the Sonder Klasse.

Historically set to still bear the Pullman nameplate, a pre-production prototype of the 2016 model was recently spotted for the first time wearing heavy camouflage.

Oddly, the two images with the prototype saw the car sitting in a parking place that looked a bit familiar to us, and that is because the model was parked right in Brabus' headquarters, in Bottrop.

Back then, we just thought that Brabus engineers are getting a preview of things to come at Mercedes-Benz thanks to their close relationship with the Stuttgart manufacturer.

Well, according to the Germans from Automobil Woche, the main reason for the S-Class Pullman prototype being fiddled with by Brabus is the fact that the automotive craftsmen from Bottrop will be in charge of the actual production of the uber-luxury model, starting from December 2015.

While that may sound like a bombshell for most people, it is not for those who are in the know about how Brabus operates and how many manufacturing divisions are actually there.

For most people, Brabus is just Brabus, but the Bottrop company also has a division called CRD (Car Research and Development), and believe it or not, CRD doesn't have a special allegiance with Mercedes-Benz or any other car manufacturer.

CRD is technically working for any car brand that needs their help, and have so far collaborated with a ton of car makers - such as Kia, Hyundai, Infiniti, Jaguar and obviously Mercedes-Benz – in order to mostly develop special edition models from the ground up.

If any of you remember the UK-only Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG DR 520 Edition, you might want to know that it was actually made by Brabus' CRD department, and not by AMG exclusively.

In other words, if the upcoming S-Class Pullman will be developed by Brabus, it will be nothing but yet another proof that the nutters from Bottrop are by far the most loved aftermarket company by Mercedes-Benz.
