2016 Renault Megane Official Photos Leak Ahead of Frankfurt Debut

The Megane story began in 1995 and the third generation has been with us since 2008. Now it's time for chapter IV – the all-new 2016 Renault Megane compact hatchback. And here it is, courtesy of the Italians over at CarPassion.it, who decided to jump the embargo and publish these official photos.

What you're looking at is the GT (not GT Line) trim level, which adds a number of sporty visual elements to the Megane IV mix. With the 2016 Renault Megane GT looking as good as this, we wonder how crazy the next-gen Megane R.S. is going to be. But let's not get ahead of ourselves and focus on what we have here.

Up front we find headlights that mirror the design of the Talisman's units, complete with C-shaped LED daytime running lights. The headlight technology on the pictured Megane GT appears to be shared with the Kadjar's optional full-LED headlights. The sporty front bumper with silver inserts, dual exhaust exits, and silver-painted rear diffuser are exclusive to the GT.

Inside we can see a number of GT-only elements as well, but the important stuff can be had on more basic 2016 Renault Megane trim levels as well. We're talking about a 6-speed EDC dual-clutch transmission with paddle shifters behind the steering wheel, a digital instrument cluster lifted from the Kadjar and a vertical infotainment screen shared with the Renault Talisman. All in all, both the outside and inside boast with big changes over the third-generation Renault Megane. So, what lies under the bodywork?

Nothing is official as of yet, but a little birdie told us that the CMF-CD platform is the name of the game here. Also employed by the Nissan Qashqai (J11), X-Trail (T32), Pulsar (C13), Renault Espace, Kadjar, and Talisman, the CD variant of the Common Module Family modular chassis is a thoroughly modern platform for a family hatchback such as the Megane IV. Powertrain-wise, we expect a 1.2-liter TCe 130 turbo petrol with 130 HP to be offered. The 1.6 TCe 150 petrol could be offered too, but we're sure about this rumor.

On the diesel front, you're in for turbocharged oil burners ranging from the dCi 110 to the 130 and the 160, if we're lucky. The dCi 110 and 130 should be offered as standard with a six-speed manual. As for the dCi 160 and its 160 horsepower, the twin-turbo 1.6-liter turbo diesel will be mated as standard with the EDC automatic. More information on the all-new 2016 Renault Megane IV, including the official technical specifications, should be released in the following days, prior to the live debut in Frankfurt.
