It seems that Toyota has mastered the art of the polite insult, as it calls its customers nerds, hipsters, and weirdos, but in the nicest way possible. It's like that time your girlfriend is turned on by your Pokemon knowledge and calls you a dork, right before she jumps your bones.
Yeah right, like that will ever happen; at least not with my generation. Anyway, I'm getting to the age when I'm considering a Prius, which explains why I'm becoming a bit bitter. My gas-guzzling days aren't completely over, but they've made this generation appealing in so many ways.
For example, it's not a hatchback, which makes it less embarrassing and more practical. Toyota might say that te design was inspired by Lady Gaga, but I see none of that going on, which is not a bad thing.
Of course, any commercial where your typical customers are being insulted has to walk a fine line. But Toyota, or rather the ad agency, even walks it backward. Yeah, they show stereotypical things like visiting the redwood forest, but that's venturing into crossover commercial territory if you think about it. A hybrid commercial should just make fun of the gas guzzlers.
After so many successful generations, everybody knows Toyota is the grand master of the hybrid. Sure, you might get more MPGe from a BMW i3, but if you seriously take into consideration highway miles and the weight of plug-in batteries, the Prius is more relevant. We highly recommend watching this comparison between it, the BMW X5 xDrive40e and the Audi A3 e-tron.
Also, it's worth pointing out the Prius ads that you are about to enjoy were made by H&L Partners creative director Rob Bagot.
