The Frankfurt Motor Show marks the international debut of the all-new MINI Clubman. It's the first model made by this company that could easily fit into the compact class, and a John Cooper Works performance model is extremely likely to happen.
The engine lineup of the Clubman is a little better than those of the 3- and 5-door Hardtops. For example, the Cooper D packs a 2-liter diesel engine with 150 PS, which is a lot more than the 1.5-liter of its little brother can offer. The SD is even better with 190 PS. However, true performance won't arrive until the JCW is ready.

That car will make ample use of a 2-liter TwinPower Turbo with a GTI-rivaling 231 PS. Maybe that will go to the front wheels, or maybe we'll have the first AWD models. Regardless, the hot family car will reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in a little over 6 seconds.

Do you think a JCW Clubman is unlikely to happen? Think again, as there's already been one that you probably don't know about. It was shown at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show and again at the New York Auto Show of the same year.

Of course, that bad boy had a 1.6-liter turbo, and this one will have a 2-liter one. While the power increase might not seem like a lot, we think 320 Nm of torque (236 lb-ft) will make a world of difference.

As for the styling, we're going to turn our attention to this immaculate rendering from X-Tomi Design. He grafted a new lower front bumper onto the 6-door car, installed bigger wheels and spruced things up with red stripes. Of course, things like the exhaust or suspension will be enhanced as well.

Measuring almost 4.3 meters in length and packing 360 liters of boot space, this largest and most powerful of the MINIs will be great for those who need a Golf GTI but hate Volkswagen. Come 2016, the JCW should be available at a dealership near you.
