2016 Mercedes-AMG C63 tested, Two Cars in One and Both of Them Are Great

With the switch to a smaller V8 engine (at least it's a V8, if anybody at BMW is reading this...) and the addition of two turbochargers, a lot of people could have been worried about the loss of character for Mercedes-AMG's D-segment sedan. And estate, if you're living in Europe.
But we knew what the engine was capable of from closely observing its behavior on the AMG GT coupe, so it was more a case of seeing how well it would fit than actually doubting its potency.

And we're happy to announce it's a perfect match. The Mercedes-AMG C63 is louder and faster than ever, so don't let yourself be deceived by that elegant look.

The drive select mode allows the car to switch from one mode to another, and the difference it makes is so huge you'll feel you've bought at least two cars for the price of one. A rather expensive one, that's true, but paying a lot of money on other pieces of metal does not guarantee you'll get the same results.

The sound of the new AMG V8 is absolutely brilliant. We've said it before and everybody else has done the same, but it's worth repeating it. The engine is one thing, but the exhaust is the real party trick here with its special valve that opens the gates of acoustic hell.

It handles pretty great too, but it's also happy to go sideways when asked of it (or even by its own will, if you're not careful). The ride is as comfortable as you would expect from a sportscar with this kind of performances, but the interior more than makes up for it.

The usual Mercedes-Benz quality is there, but with a darker, sportier twist. The steering wheel alone is enough to make you want to go fast, and the sports seats offer wonderful lateral support.

There are a lot of things that are right about the new Mercedes-AMG G63, and none that are particularly bad. You can read our whole review here and see what our final verdict is.
