Introduced in 2013 as a 2014 model year, the third-generation Mazda3 is one of the most under appreciated vehicles in the compact car segment. Available as a three-door hatchback or a four-door sedan, the 2016 Mazda3 isn’t the facelift we’ve all been waiting for, but it bundles more standard kit.
The starting MSRP for the 2016 Mazda3 is $17,845 for the entry-level i Sport six-speed manual, representing a $600 difference over the 2015 Mazda3. Although it’s better value than before, the 2016 model year is equipped as standard with a rearview parking camera. Opt for the automatic and we’re looking at $18,895 without the pesky $820 destination charge.
Available with a 155 horsepower 2-liter SkyActiv-G engine, more demanding customers can opt for an optional 2.5-liter with 184 HP. The 2016 Mazda3 four-door sedan in i Grand Touring Manual configuration represents the cheapest way to enjoy the 2.5-liter, priced at $24,745. The equivalent hatchback is $25,445.
Arriving at Stateside dealerships in late July, the 2016 Mazda3 features additional standard equipment such as power locks and windows, 16-inch steel wheels with covers, dual-power folding side mirrors, air conditioning, and 60/40 rear seats. Additionally, the Mazda3 boasts a 6-speaker stereo with Bluetooth connectivity and media streaming, cruise control, a trip computer, push-button start, and keyless entry.
For the 2016 model year, the Japanese manufacturer offers two options packed. The Preferred Equipment Package will add alloy wheels, chrome trim, heated mirrors with integrated turn signals, sport seats, a rear-seat armrest, auto headlights, rain-sensing wipers, Blind Spot Monitoring, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.
As for the Touring Popular Package, this adds dual-zone automatic climate control, auto-dimming rearview mirror, a 9-speaker Bose sound system, SiriusXM radio, a CD player, and a BMW-like shark fin antenna.
