2016 GMC Acadia Introduced With OnStar 4G LTE

Despite its honorable age (five years since debut), the GMC Acadia is selling like hot cakes. Believe it or not, approximately 30,000 examples were sold in the first four months of the year, making the full-size crossover SUV a success story for GMC. Instead of resting on its laurels, the General Motors brand updated the Acadia a wee bit for the 2016MY.

First of all, the 2015 model year’s RPO-level Mobile Wi-Fi Connectivity Package is not available anymore. In its place, the 2016 GMC Acadia crossover boasts OnStar 4G LTE with Wi-Fi. Over a 6-month trial subscription to the OnStar Directions & Connections Plan, the owner is able to enjoy features as Automatic Crash Response, Turn-by-Turn Navigation, Roadside Assistance, a link to emergency services, as well as Remote Door Unlock.

The exterior color palette suffered some modifications too. Instead of the 2015 model year’s Carbon Black Metallic and White Diamond Tricot, the 2016 Acadia’s optional color palette gets Ebony Twilight Metallic and White Frost Tricoat. GMC’s largest crossover in SLT-1 trim adds an 8-way power driver seat with power recline and lumbar control, a 2-position memory feature for the driver’s seat and side mirrors, as well as safety gizmos including Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Safe Blind Zone Alert.

If you’re set on acquiring a 2016 GMC Acadia Denali, we have to tell you that the steering wheel is entirely wrapped in leather, losing the wood trim on the lower portion of the 2015 model year's wheel. This solution allows the entire circumference of the steering wheel to be heated.

Anything else? Well, rumor has it the 2016MY will be the last Acadia of the current generation. The 2017 GMC Acadia will swap the GM Lambda platform for the C1XX "Chi" architecture (based on the company’s all-new 2016 Chevrolet Malibu’s E2XX vehicle platform).
