It’s been less than a week since the first details concerning the next-generation Ford Taurus surfaced the Internet, and a new report now claims the full-size sedan may not be offered in the United States.
According to The Truth About Cars, quoting sources familiar with the vehicle’s development, the Taurus won’t receive new model for America. Despite Taurus sales growing the past couple of years, the full-size has been outsold by the Fusion by a 4:1 ration.
Additionally, the Taurus is a drag on the company’s CAFE ratings and its fleet sales are surpassed by the Explored Police Interceptor SUV.
Therefore, the 2016 Taurus is likely to continue as we know it only in China, where Ford reportedly plans to offer it bolted on the same Gobi platform that’s set to underpin the next Lincoln MKS. The previous report said the Taurus will ride on a stretched version of the Fusion’s all-wheel drive platform.
Regardless of what chassis it will receive, the next-generation Fusion will be lighter, faster and more fuel efficient compared to its predecessor. The sedan will receive an array of four-cylinder the V6 EcoBoost engines under the hood.
The current Taurus is motivated by three units. It comes with 3.5-liter TiVCT V6 as standard and can be fitted with a 2.0-liter EcoBoost as an option. A twin-turbo 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 is also available, but only for the the SHO model.
