After Arrow Racing Engines and The Viper Exchange detailed a 900 HP supercharging package for America’s finest supercar and Dodge themselves presented the world with the GTC derivative, Fiat-Chrysler is set to unleash yet another variant of the breed. If the information is correct, the 2016 Dodge Viper ACR will start production in July at the Conner Avenue Assembly plant in Detroit Motor City.
Previewed back in October 2014 by a cryptic teaser and what looked like a production-ready concept vehicle at the SEMA show, a reliable source told Allpar that the 2016 Dodge Viper ACR is set to become reality roughly five months from the present moment.
Beforehand, all we were told by Dodge about the ACR Concept is that “It’s difficult, but yes, you can improve the ultimate hand-built American exotic supercar. For a blueprint, look no further than the Dodge Viper ACR Concept.” The meaning of that is pretty obvious.
Word on the street was that the concept previews the 2016 Viper ACR, a model that would enter mass production by “mid-2015.” If Allpar’s source is correct, then it all adds up - the ACR will make a grand return pretty soon, albeit nothing is known about what ACR Concept bits and bobs will arrive on the real thing.
Still, we have a sneaking suspicion that not much will change over what we’ve been shown at the 2014 Specialty Equipment Market Association show. Carbon fiber everything, a humongous spoiler, an aggressive nip & tuck job for the front fascia, Alcantara on the inside, no air conditioning and a bewitching white-black-red livery sum up the ACR.
Now let’s wait and see if the V10 lump will churn out more than 645 HP and 600 lb-ft (813 Nm)...
