After Renault launched the new Trafic this year and Opel/Vauxhall debuted a rebadged model called Vivaro, PSA Peugeot Citroen is now testing prototypes of the future Jumpy and Expert light commercial vehicles. Expected to launch in early 2016, these two will be more versatile, economical, safer and more technologically advanced than current models in order to keep up with segment rivals.
Although both prototypes are camouflaged quite heavily, there are a few tell-tale signs of things to come. Spotted while testing in Southern Europe, the biggest cosmetic difference over the outgoing models is that the front is much higher, similar to what you can see on a modern Ford or Renault light commercial vehicle. Not only the front bumper and radiator grille are positioned higher than before, but the cockpit and windows also appear to have been raised a few inches.

New headlights and taillamps are on the menu, including LED daytime running lights, but the Citroen has the upper hand in terms of styling. Its proportions, but especially the front fascia do look very similar to the Tubik concept the French manufacturer debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show three years ago. Of course, much of the concept's cues have been toned down, but that camouflage doesn't fool anyone there's a little bit of Tubik in there. Some rumors hint that the future Citroen Jumpy will be offered in more versions than before, including a passenger-oriented version a la VW Transporter Caravelle.

Back in February 2013, Toyota Germany boss Toshiaki Yasuda told the automotive media that an all-new Proace will be jointly developed with PSA Peugeot Citroen and will be launched in 2016. Unofficial information hints that the next generation Citroen Jumpy, Peugeot Expert and Toyota Proace will be built at the Sevelnord plant in Hordain, France, with production slated to start late next year.
