Some of you might remember that Cadillac has previously announced it will rename its entire lineup of vehicles in the near future - coupes and sedans will bear CT-numeral monikers, while SUVs except for the Escalade will be known as XT something.
The first future Caddy to adopt the new naming strategy will be the CT6 flagship sedan you can read about here, while the first sport utility vehicle to adopt the naming strategy will be the Cadillac XT5.

Don't get confused by the XT5 moniker - that's just how Cadillac will reportedly name the successor of the 2015 SRX crossover. Our spy photographers managed to snap a few pics of what looks like an early prototype of the Cadillac XT5 and it appears there's a total redesign we're talking about here.

The upcoming mid-size CUV from Caddy will ride on an all-new platform codenamed C1XX

While other refer to it as the "Chi", the C1XX will come in two variants - a shorter and a longer one. While the Cadillac XT5 will ride on the short C1XX, the longer C1XX will be the skeleton of a bigger Cadillac CUV in the future, as well as the new-generation Chevrolet Traverse and GMC Acadia.

The shorter C1XX chassis is expected to underpin the next-gen GMC Acadia and an all-new Chevrolet CUV, some voices say. Still, the mule our carparazzi spied sort of retains the SRX's overall look and proportions, but the light camo up front hides a radiator grille design similar the 2015 Cadillac ATS's.

Radar sensors can be seen as well, which means this XT5 thingy will probably get Super Cruise automated driving tech. Don't be fooled by the rear of the spied XT5 'cos that's just a fake box built in the hatch which has been carefully crafted to mimic a fatter rear end. This technique hides sloped rear side windows, while the side mirrors have been moved down from the glass to the doors.

Last but not least - the oily bits. Nothing official yet, but we sort of expect an engine lineup made up of turbocharged four and six-cylinder powerplants. As for transmissions, the heavily-rumoured GM nine-speed auto might be offered as standard. In terms of production, General Motors hinted it's going to shift its crossover production from Mexico to the Spring Hill, Tennessee plant by the end of 2015.
