Detroit muscle is back in town as the 2016 Cadillac CTS-V and ATS-V receive a price tag. In the United States, a CTS-V can be ordered from $83,995 while the ATS-V is $60,465. On the other side of the Atlantic pond, the CTS-V brute is €98,500 in Germany, and the ATS-V goes for €74,900. But are these Caddys good value for money?
Darn right they are! Let’s make a quick comparison with the BMW M3 and M5 in their most basic trim level. The ATS-V-rivaling M3 is $62,000 or €71,800, making it the cheaper option in Europe. Main rival BMW M5 fetches sizably more stacks o’ bills than the American interloper at $112,400 or €104,000. But at the end of the day, the V-Series and M division are highly different skunkworks through philosophy.

BMW M is known for being top dog at this kind of go-fast thing. But there’s magic to Cadillac’s -V models too, the kind of magic that will appeal to those customers that are fed up with M, AMG and quattro’s RS-branded products. One thing is certain though - the Cadillac brothers have the upper hand in terms of big figures. Take the CTS-V as a prime example - the LT4 supercharged V8 is highly similar to the one in the Corvette Z06, churning out 640 HP and 630 lb-ft (855 Nm). As Cadillac points out, that’s more bang for the buck “than the Mercedes-Benz 5.5L bi-turbo V8 and the BMW M-series 4.4L TwinPower V8.”

With a top speed of 200 mph (321 km/h) and 60 mph (96 km/h) delivered in 3.7 seconds, it’s a hugely impressive machine. To boot, the standard third-gen Magnetic Ride Control suspension should make the 2016 Cadillac CTS-V a capable performance sedan when the going gets a little twisty. On the other end of the scale is the Cadillac ATS-V. Available in both coupe and sedan forms, the lil’ bugger utilizes a 3.6-liter twin-turbo V6 with 464 ponies and 603 Nm (445 lb-ft) of torque. 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h)? 3.9 seconds.

Cadillac president Johan de Nysschen is adamant that the “V-Series represents the pinnacle of Cadillac, a brand that now makes drivers’ cars at the highest level... V-Series matches or overtakes the finest cars in this elite class, while being more accessible.” To each his own, we reply, but there’s no denying that Cadillac is pushing the performance envelope with the V-ified CTS and CTS. It will be interesting to see how many of these babies will sell in the European Union, a market Cadillac is getting really interesting in as of late.
