2016 BMW F31 3 Series Touring Facelift Spied Testing in Heavy Snow

Just a few months now stand between us and the facelifted F30 3 Series range and BMW is seemingly testing its cars for the last time these days, in the harshest places on Earth. Our photographers caught up with an F31 3 Series Touring prototype near the Arctic Circle, dressed up in camouflage.

Admittedly, only the front fascia and rear end were dressed up but that’s only normal, as the new cars are only going to get slight cosmetic changes in these key areas.

The tech bits are going to be the most interesting part of the facelift and BMW themselves have confirmed that big changes are going to happen, unusually big for a Life Cycle Impulse.

New engines will be introduced, part of the new B-family that offers modularity. Basically, up to 40 percent of the parts can be used between diesel and petrol mills and that adds up to incredible savings in costs.

Furthermore, they are also supposed to bring forward new TwinPower technology that will increase power and reduce consumption and NVH levels at the same time.

Two new nameplates will be introduced as well. Actually, the 330i moniker has been around before but not on the F30 model though. Yes, the 330i will show up again but it will be powered by a turbocharged 2-liter instead of a NA 3-liter inline 6.

The 340i will also be unveiled with the facelift, showing more than 330 HP from a 3-liter inline 6-cylinder mill. Rumor has it that we’ll also get a new M Performance model to go up against the 367 HP C450 AMG Sport. We’re not so sure though.

On the eco-friendly side of things, BMW already confirmed that there will be a new plug-in hybrid on the table, one that will have a combined power output of 245 HP and around 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque. The exact figures haven’t been released yet.

With production slated to begin in July, it’s same to assume that we’ll be seeing the facelifted Bimmer in the metal for the first time at Geneva in March.
