2016 Audi R8 Spyder Already Rendered: the Best Way to Enjoy a V10

When we first saw the new Audi R8 we had to admit that it’s not the best looking car out there. Its shapes were all too straight, and there were too many rectangles included in the mix. The older version seemed like a better idea.

However, things might be a little different in real life. This definitely wouldn’t be the first car to look one way in photos and completely different in real life so we’ll have to preserve judgement until we get to drive it.

Furthermore, the Audi will probably also be offered in Spyder guise, and that’s just music to our ears to be honest. Why is that? Because the car uses a good-old fashioned atmospheric 5.2-liter V10 that makes 540 HP and 540 Nm (398 lb-ft) of torque in its basic guise.

Get the R8 V10+ and the output goes up to 610 HP and 560 Nm (413 lb-ft) of torque. That’s complete madness if you ask us and, enjoying the sound those cylinders make at higher revs can only be done without a roof over your head.

Audi is purportedly working on the drop-top version as we’re writing this article, but it will take some more time before it gets here. Until then, Theophilus Chin decided to take a stab at putting one on paper to see how it would turn out and we’re impressed with the result.

There’s also another issue to mention here: the price tag. The normal Audi starts at €165,000 ($187,491) for the 540 HP version going up to €187,400 ($212,934) for the V10 Plus. Therefore, the Spyder alternative would probably be a lot closer to the magic €200,000 mark, and that’s simply too much in our book.
