2016 Audi R8 e-tron 2.0 Officially Unveiled with 462 HP and 920 Nm of Torque

If the new Audi R8 isn’t exactly what you expected, you can have a go at the e-tron 2.0 version that is bound to stir up some fuzzy feelings inside. The thing is, it will have the same design most likely and that’s a big disappointment.

However, this is not your regular Audi. This is an all-electric car that has plenty of grunt to show for it and isn’t ashamed to take on the world’s best at the moment.

With the Tesla Model S P85D doing 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.1 seconds the Audi R8 e-tron had to step up its game. Dubbed the 2.0 version to show that there have been some major changes done to the overall concept, the new car actually has twice as much power and torque than the original version.

In total, we’re talking about 462 HP (or 340 kW as the press release says) and 920 Nm (679 lb-ft) of torque. Compared to the aforementioned American, the German has less horsepower and slightly less torque but these are different strokes for different folks.

Audi also claims that the battery now offers a range of up to 450 km (279.6 miles) which is more than twice it used to do before. Don’t think that it’s all due to some carefully designed aerodynamic features or a sudden drop in weight.

The increase in range is actually due to the bigger battery fitted inside, that now adds up to 92 kWh instead of 49 which is what the original had. Built in the shape of a T, the pack now sits in the center tunnel and goes behind the occupant cell.

The sprint to 100 km/h (62 mph) now takes 3.9 seconds and the car can go as high as an electronically restricted top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph). The best thing about it, even though Audi claims that this is still a car used for research, is that you can now order an e-tron, if you’re into electric R8s. However, we’re pretty sure the price tag will be rather restrictive. Ordering books open later this year.
