Audi has important plans for the next generation of the A8 and these spread beyond the powerplant or the design areas - The 2016 A8 is expected to bring serious advances in terms of autonomous driving.
Audi has made multiple efforts to develop such systems, but none of its production models released so far incorporates such a feature. However, it seems that the 2016 A8 will come with autonomous driving features such as those that were recently showcased at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
To be more specific, the piloted driving system should be introduced on Audi’s flagship sedan, but the carmaker’s self-parking system will probably need more testing before it can become a production feature.
The aforementioned piloted driving system relies on two radar sensors, a wide-angle video camera and eight ultrasonic sensors to read the world around the vehicle. It promises that it can fully drive the car, albeit for a limited period of time. To be more specific, this is aimed at taking control during traffic jams, in order to reduce the stress induced by these. It covers acceleration and braking, as well as steering, at speeds up to 60 km/h (37 mph).
