If the V8-powered Chevrolet Camaro were to be compared to a Rolling Stones tune, that would be “Satisfaction” because it’s catchy, energizing and timeless, just like the GM-made pony car. In the case of the Yenko, we have to choose a different song.
No, not that Yenko Super Camaro from 1967, but what Specialty Vehicle Engineering dubs the 2015 Yenko 427 Supercharged 700 HP Camaro. For this derivative of the Camaro, we’ll go with “Rip This Joint,” one of the fastest songs in the British rock band's canon.
Just like “Rip This Joint,” the SVE Yenko Camaro is a fast-paced animal with an appetite to howl at the moon through its hand-built 427 LS7 V8 engine, which pushes 700 ponies thanks to a TVS 2300 supercharger. The modern take on the Yenko isn’t all-new though.
When SVE was called SLP, the New Jersey-based company unveiled this brawler at the 2014 SEMA show. But the Specialty Vehicle Engineering team only recently put the Yenko through its paces, burnouting the S/C V8-powered beast and pulling a dyno run for our personal, high-octane gasoline-fueled enjoyment.
It still isn’t clear if the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro will revive the Yenko nameplate, but if we’re to be frank, we can’t complain with that if the SVE outfit will work their magic on the sixth-gen as well. That’s about enough mumbo-jumbo, so kick back and turn the volume all the way to eleven before pressing play.
