Yamaha is far from having reached the creativity limits with their successful AMX series. In fact, the family history goes on and on, as Iwata announces the introduction of an all-new scooter, the NMAX, which will complement the existing TAMX and XMAX models. The new Yamaha NMAX will be launched in Indonesia, in February 2015, but the two-wheeler has been developed as a global model, and this means that we’ll get it in Europe and even North America this year.
The NMAX will be manufactured locally by PT Yamaha Indonesia Motor Manufacturing and is said to be a strong model which will drive the business scale expansion for the 2013-2015 medium-term management plan, according to official Yamaha sources.

Power comes from the BLUE CORE engine, with Variable Valve Actuation (VVA)

Yamaha’s new scooter slots in the middleweight range, as the 155cc displacement will add to the existing MAX 125, 250, 400 and 530cc scooters. NMAX will be powered by a liquid-cooled single cylinder BLUE CORE engine sporting Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) technology and promising good fuel efficiency and a sporty character which will be delightful in the urban and sub-urban environment. The transmission is of course automatic.

The frame is all-new and sports increased rigidity while being lightweight and favoring the sporty feel. 13” tires have been developed especially for this model to retain sport and natural handling, while the ABS brakes are offered as standard. Yamaha also claims that the 2015 NMAX is “the first ASEAN scooter model to be equipped with the system”.

On the styling side, the 2015 Yamaha NMAX remains in the MAX family, as the lines and overall looks boast on multiple ideas we have seen implemented and developing alongside with the rest of the MAX scooters.

Even though some will see this as too conservative and lacking in novelty, we sort of like the NMAX because it expands the very successful and long-standing MAX line-up with a model that is coherent with the “family values”, top-drawer looks and even more, new technologies implemented in small-displacement machines.

Yamaha has not mentioned a price for Europe or other western markets, but the Indonesian price is really appealing, as it translates to $2,165 or €1,900.
