Even though the Jetta is quite an old car, Volkswagen has worked wonders with its mid-life facelift, not in the looks department, but on the safety front. The 2015 model year sedan has just been crash-tested by the IIHS and received the maximum 2014 Top Safety Pick+ rating.
To receive this, this humble-looking sedan had to earn a "Good" rating on every type of crash test, including the dreaded "small overlap", which you can watch in the video below. This pushes the resistance of the passenger cell to the limit by impacting a barrier across only a quarter of the front end.

Since the Jetta has been rolling off the Puebla assembly line since 2010, we're confident in saying that Volkswagen must have added extra bracing to the car to meet the latest IIHS tests.

Another crucial feature is that 2015 Jetta has is an optional Assistance Package available on select models, which includes the Forward Collision Warning system.

“To have IIHS recognize the vehicle as a Top Safety Pick + confirms that our commitment to safety and engineering pays off in delivering a standout compact vehicle." declared Mark McNabb, Chief Operating Officer, Volkswagen of America.

We'll remind you that the "Top Safety Pick+" rating is based on "Good" in the moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests. Cars must score no less than an "Acceptable" rating in the small overlap front test and at least a basic rating for front crash prevention.

“The redesigned 2015 Volkswagen Jetta not only brings a sleek new design but also offers customers state-of-the-art technology, creating the ideal combination of Volkswagen design, performance, and world-class engineering,” added Mark McNabb.
