One doesn’t need to be a Star Motorcycles expert to figure out that the R-Spec of the acclaimed and already highly-popular XV950 Bolt is the better-endowed version of the base bike. Following a year full of accomplishments and having already become a revered choice among bike customizers, the Star Bolt looks like it’s heading for one more glorious season. Enter the 2015 Bolt R-Spec, the cooler version of the cool bobber.
The 2015 model year doesn’t stray from the almost perfect recipe it was based upon when the bike was initially launched. The sole biggest improvement is the revised dash, with the instrument cluster now offering much better visibility in strong sunlight, as Star says. The philosophy remained the same: an exceptionally custom-friendly platform to serve as the “donor bike” for the most breathtaking projects, with both bolt-on and hack & saw-ready capabilities.

R-spec brings in better-performing adjustable dual rear shock absorbers with piggyback gas reservoirs, specially tuned for the Bolt and providing a plush ride. The seat of the 2015 Bolt R-Spec also comes with a richer seat in textured suede with color stitching, and cooler graphics with a dash of custom paint work. Black fenders and blacked-out mirrors are also available, as well as rim stripes for a sportier look, front cowls with mini windshields and a host of other accessories. A passenger seat kit, passenger backrest, springer solo seats, Hardstreet hard bags, and a heap of amazing brass parts to contrast with the blacked-out machine are also up for grabs.

This 942cc fuel-injected air-cooled v-twin comes with a 5-speed transmission, hassle-free belt drive, 19-16 inch wheels for front and rear, and a low, reassuring 27.2 inch-high (69cm) seat making it a nifty choice for shorter riders, as well. Star claims 47-51 mpg (4.6-5 l/100km), but even so, the 3.2-gallon (12 liter) tank will make refueling stops rather often during longer hauls.

In either Raven Black or Matte Silver, the 2015 Bolt R-Spec will be available from July in Star Motorcycles dealerships for a cool $8,390 (€6,150).
