Those sneaky marketing people who recently wrote an exhaustive press release about the record-breaking sales of Mercedes-Benz Cars in the first four months of 2014 also threw in a somewhat unrelated Easter Egg into the bowl.
As it happens, the world premiere of the third generation of the tiny smart fortwo and the second generation of the smart forfour will take place at the same time in Berlin, sometime during this July.

If our sources are correct, the two lilliputian models will only have their unveil this Summer, with the actual sales launch to take place in the Fall, at the 2014 edition of the Paris Motor Show, alongside their French brother - the Renault Twingo.

As most of you know, the new city models were co-developed with the Renault-Nissan Alliance, meaning that the smart forfour will share approximately 70 percent of its inside bits with the recently-launched Renault-Twingo.

Technically, the engines and transmissions (manual and double-clutch) will come from Renault, while the body, suspension, ergonomics, etc. are brought in by smart. This means that the rear-engine and rear-wheel drive layout will remain an original trait, which will now also be implemented on the forfour and the Twingo.

The fortwo will keep the length of the current model, but will be quite a bit wider in order to provide more elbow room and an improved stability during cornering, while the forfour's length is expected to be around 3.5 meters.

With a turning radius of under 8 meters (26 feet), the third generation of the smart fortwo should definitely be awarded with a world record in this area, also insuring that its city handling and parking abilities will not be matches by any other production car. Expect more details about the two models as we are nearing their unveil date in July.
